Canterbury Cross 9th Century (Brass Rubbing)

Canterbury Cross Gold & Red.jpg

=> THIS IS NOT A PRINT <=

Each Brass Rubbing is a hand made original.

The engraving is 6 1/2 inches in diameter on paper 10" X 10" to allow for matting and framing.

This is a hand made rubbing of The Canterbury Cross created with metallic gold & red wax crayons on a special black rag paper.

The original, probably made in the 9th Century AD, was found in St. Georges Street, Canterbury and is a gilt cruciform brooch with triangular silver panels, incised with a 'triquetra' pattern.

The engraving from which this rubbing was taken is from an exhibition featured at The Washington National Cathedral by The London Brass Rubbing Centre and has more recently been on a National tour as part of their brass rubbing workshop.

Rubbings like this one, hand made by one of their craft instructors, makes for unusual and interesting gifts.

Shipped rolled in a strong mailing tube. It can be hung either from wooden dowels or matted and framed under glass.

Shipping and handling charges include insurance cover during transit. We offer a combined shipping price if you decide to order more than one rubbing from our catalogue, if they can be rolled in the same mailing tube.
