St George & The Dragon (Brass Rubbing)

brass-rubbing-st-george-fr.jpg

This is a hand made rubbing of Saint George and the Dragon, measuring 13" X 8 1/2", created with gold and silver wax crayons on a special black rag paper.

Framed in an attractive wood frame with mat that has an inside dimension of 15" X 11" and an outside measurement of 20" X 16"

The woodcut is from the 1590 edition of Spencer's The Fairie Queen, dedicated to Queen Elizabeth I. Saint George is depicted as a medieval armoured knight on horseback and symbolised the triumph of the Christian church over evil and paganism.

The border is a Celtic knotwork design.

The framed picture has a removable backing and hanging device and is covered with clear glass. On the back a gold sticker confirming it was hand rubbed at The London Brass Rubbing Centre.

This woodcut is from an exhibition featured at The Washington National Cathedral by The London Brass Rubbing Centre and has more recently been on a National tour as part of their brass rubbing workshop.

Rubbings like this one, hand made by craft instructor, make unusual and interesting gifts!

Shipping and handling charges include insurance cover during transit. We are pleased to offer a combined shipping cost if you decide to buy more than one rubbing.
